“Dance is the most complete form of movement: it gives actions a symbolic intentionality, through an intrinsically relational creative experience, open to a multiplicity of body styles and cultures. (…) Rhythm has a fundamental function as a biological, psychic and relational organizer. On rhythmic ground, the individual harmonizes with the outside world.”
Dr. Vincenzo Bellia (psychiatrist and creator of the expressive-relational dance movement therapy method)
Dance Movement Therapy, nourished by the marriage between science and art since the middle of the 20th century, is not a technical approach to dance but an expressive, explorative, empathic, integrative discipline. It ranges from the most minimal to the the most complex of movements, it can be experienced in a group or in individual sessions with the therapist, and it offers us the following benefits:
-
It renews and maintains the fundamental community bond for individual and collective health, triggering a process of intra and interpersonal integration
-
It revitalizes through a primary reconnection with the vital pulse and the joy of living, through meaningful work anchored in rhythmic, playful, empathetic and inclusive movement
-
It helps to process, at the level of holistic identity, the changes undergone following an illness, an accident or a crisis
-
It promotes self-reappropriation and the recreation of body notion (not just the image but the body felt, inhabited in its globality)
-
It promotes the recovery of personal confidence and contributes to the creation of individual and collective meaning.
-
It reinforces the self-regulation of psycho-corporal functions, the development and maintenance of motor, cognitive and affective skills
-
It deepens proprioception and exchange for an expansion of the perceptual and expressive field, which offers us a greater repertoire of vital options for the management of a full, balanced and meaningful life.
